A visit to Perth Zoo yesterday, I spent 5 & 1/5 hours sketching yesterday. So much to draw….feathers, fur and scales….all sorts of shapes and sizes, some of the creatures are “collages”….those that moved around….either I had to wait until it returned to the same spot of pick another similar relative! The lioness was one that got away….I’d just started drawing her when a noisy bunch of school kids arrived so she got up and walked off into the long grass and I didn’t see her again!
Oil painting this morning for a change….I haven’t painted in oils for about 5 years so this was something quite different from my usual pen and wash. Painted with brushes and palette knife (I knocked over my tin of turps early on so palette knife was easier to clean) colours: white, lemon yellow, yellow ochre, cerulean, ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, permanent rose, burnt sienna and black. This motor boat is “Capt Chaos – Fremantle” on land at Maylands Amateur Boatbuilding Yard, Maylands, Perth. Capt Chaos is propped up with metal poles with her keel resting on some old wooden sleepers, a couple of tarps draped over the bow, a yellow power cable dangling over the port side. A lovely couple of hours with the Perth Plein Air Painters.
An early evening meetup with the Urban Sketchers Perth in the centre of the city….Forrest Place has a “Hawkers Market” on every Friday night during the warmer months, lots of different food stalls, music and entertainment. I arrived a little late but had time to sketch this cute little caravan selling home made ice lollies.
