South Perth foreshore this morning for an end of year Christmas catch-up with the Perth Urban Sketchers. It was a lovely morning sitting down under the paperbark trees next to the “Funcat” hire kiosk, we all brought some food to share and sketched the city, the sailboats, dog walkers and Sunday promenaders. I decided to try a different format for the city skyline….I had cut a sheet of A4 paper into 3 lengthways then taped them together on the back to create one long piece of paper. This enabled me to create a long panorama sketch starting at the South Perth foreshore on the left, travelling over the narrows bridge, past King’s Park and into the city over on the right. Unfortunately I underestimated the length of the city so I only got about halfway along Langley Park before I ran out of paper! Also I misjudged how tall the BHP tower is so I continued the tower on bottom edge of my sketch book….(live and learn….note to self….next time take extra paper and start sketch in the middle of the city with the tallest building first).
A visit to Perth Zoo yesterday, I spent 5 & 1/5 hours sketching yesterday. So much to draw….feathers, fur and scales….all sorts of shapes and sizes, some of the creatures are “collages”….those that moved around….either I had to wait until it returned to the same spot of pick another similar relative! The lioness was one that got away….I’d just started drawing her when a noisy bunch of school kids arrived so she got up and walked off into the long grass and I didn’t see her again!
